Fitzrovia Quarter Presents: What Holds Us Together
This October, Fitzrovia Quarter invites you to explore What Holds Us Together, a new group exhibition celebrating an all-female cohort of six emerging artists who have spent the past four months creating, experimenting, and exchanging ideas in the heart of the neighbourhood.
The exhibition marks the culmination of Fitzrovia Quarter’s inaugural Studio Residency, which provided six artists with dedicated, rent-free studio spaces at 53 Great Portland Street. Selected from 253 applications by an expert panel of local gallery owners, curators, and creative leaders, the residents have spent their time developing ambitious new work inspired by Fitzrovia’s layered history, vibrant people, and distinctive urban character.

19-25 October
Radiant House, 36–38 Mortimer Street
Six artists, six different perspectives
Artists Esmeralda Conde Ruiz, Jingshan Ding, Purdey Fitzherbert, Holly Keogh, Monya Riachi, and Tabitha Wilson each bring a unique artistic discipline and vision to the exhibition.Rather than creating literal portraits of Fitzrovia, the artists were given complete creative freedom to take the neighbourhood as a starting point—drawing inspiration from its historic built fabric, local fabric shop textures, collected sounds, and everyday encounters between plant and city life.
Spanning painting, printmaking, sculpture, installation, writing, sound, and performance, the resulting works explore evocative themes of memory, movement, material change, vulnerability, and coexistence. You might catch glimpses of Fitzrovia in a weathered surface, an architectural motif, or a quiet city moment—yet these pieces ultimately reflect broader human connections with one another and the environments we inhabit.
From studio to exhibition
Over the summer, the residency offered something increasingly rare in central London: the gift of time, space, and a supportive community to take bold risks and test new ideas.
Working side by side in temporarily activated studio spaces awaiting refurbishment, the artists engaged in daily peer exchange, experimented with new materials and larger scales, and sparked creative dialogues with nearby galleries and local businesses.
Now, those four months of creative exploration come together in a special group exhibition at Radiant House, the landmark blue-tiled, Grade II listed Art Deco building on Mortimer Street. The result is not just a single view of the area, but six distinct perspectives on what connects us to place and community.

A new chapter for Fitzrovia’s creative scene
What Holds Us Together represents the latest chapter in Fitzrovia Quarter’s commitment to culture-led placemaking and celebrating local creative talent.
Following previous cultural initiatives such as Oliwia Bober’s Mural on Mortimer commission and The Artist’s Corner pop-up exhibition on Eastcastle Street, this residency deepens ties between emerging practitioners, local businesses, and visitors across the Quarter.
In a lasting legacy for the project, The Langham Estate will also acquire one piece from each resident artist to form the foundation of a permanent art collection celebrating Fitzrovia.
It highlights a belief central to Fitzrovia Quarter: that art thrives when integrated into everyday life—turning streets, historic buildings, and unexpected spaces into places of discovery for everyone.
